Free Help For Inventors

To help you get started with patenting your invention, the Patent and Trademark Offices will send you a free booklet upon request called General Information Concerning Patents. There are three legal elements involved in the process of invention: the conception of the idea, diligence in working it out, and reducing it to practice -i.e., getting a finished product that actually works. If you have a great idea you think might work, but you need time to develop it further before it is ready to be patented, what should you do? For answers to general questions on patent examining policies and procedures, contact the Inventors Assistance Center at 800-PTO-9199 or 571-272-1000; TTY: 571-272-9950; Email: usptoinfo@uspto.gov. They will not answer legal questions or opinions. Applications, forms, and part or all of pamphlets are at their website; www.uspto.gov. You can order them online from http://bookstore.gpo.gov)
