There are over 100 national non-profit organizations that offer financial assistance to homebuyers, homeowners and even developers. The problem is that there is no one source for identifying all these organizations. But a good place to start is the two organizations that keep track of nonprofit organizations:
The Foundation Center
79 Fifth Avenue
New York, NY 10003
They have a database of over 75,000 non-profit organizations that give out grants. This database is accessible on the web for a fee or you can go into one of the Foundation Center libraries around the country and use their database for free. They also publish directories of foundations that give out grant money. You can call their office and they will tell you what libraries in your area have these directories for you to look at for free.
4801 Courthouse Street
They have a similar database as The Foundation Center, but do not offer training and classes on other aspects of grantsmanship. Their database seems to have much more information in it about any given foundation. The best part is that you can use the database that will only show partial information on the records, but it is good enough for many applications.
Income Eligibility: Each organization listed on these two sites will have their own income requirements; contact the organization you’re interested in directly to find out the program’s requirements.
